AUTUMN'S CORNER · HANDMADE IN WALES

The children's bookshelf you won't replace in two years

You've seen the flatpack options. The plastic ones. The ones that look fine until they're in your home. This is the other kind — solid ash, handcrafted in Cardiff, built to last beyond childhood.

THE HONEST COMPARISON

There's a gap in the market. You've felt it.

At one end, cheap flatpack shelves that do a job but never feel right. At the other, bespoke furniture costing thousands with months of lead time. For a child's bookshelf, neither fits.

We built The Story Shelf to sit exactly where nothing else did — properly made, beautifully designed, and priced so it's an investment rather than an indulgence.

WHY WE MADE IT

We started Autumn's Corner because the furniture we wanted for our daughter simply didn't exist.

Everything we make is built in our Cardiff workshop, in small batches, by people who care about the detail. Not because it's a marketing line — because it's the only way we know how to make something worth keeping.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

Made properly. Made to keep.

Solid ash, not MDF

A genuine hardwood that ages beautifully and doesn't chip, warp, or soften at the joints the way flatpack furniture does.

Front facing display

Books shown cover-forward at your child's eye level — the design that gets children genuinely reading on their own.

Eleven colours

From natural ash to hand-painted Soft Sage, Dusky Pink, Olive and more — chosen to sit well in a room, not just a nursery.

Arrives assembled

No flatpack frustration. Every shelf leaves Cardiff fully built and ready to mount in minutes.

Designer-chosen

Specified by interior designers across the UK who trust it to work as furniture, not just storage.

Built to last

This isn't furniture you replace. It's the shelf that stays through every stage of childhood and beyond.

CHOOSE YOUR SHELF

Two versions. One standard.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you buy

  • Because it's a fundamentally different product. Solid ash rather than MDF, dovetail joinery, hand-finished in Cardiff and arriving fully assembled. A flatpack shelf is replaced every few years — this one lasts beyond childhood, which makes it better value over time.
  • Solid ash is a hardwood — it doesn't chip, warp, or soften at joints the way MDF and softwood shelves do over time. Our shelves use traditional dovetail joinery, which means they're held together mechanically rather than by glue and screws alone. The result is a shelf that lasts decades rather than a few years.
  • Yes, fully. Every shelf leaves our Cardiff workshop assembled and ready to mount. All you need is a drill and the included fixings. Most customers have theirs on the wall within fifteen minutes of opening the box.
  • Each shelf is made to order in our Cardiff workshop and dispatched within 10–12 working days. We don't hold stock: your shelf is made when you order it, which is part of what makes each one individual. Free UK delivery on all orders.
  • Yes. Klarna is available at checkout, so you can spread the cost over 3 interest-free payments.
  • Both are solid ash with dovetail joints, in the same five sizes. The Story Shelf is natural ash with a painted front bar. The Colour Pop has its body hand-painted in one of eleven colours, with a natural ash or oak front bar.
