We started Autumn’s Corner because the furniture we wanted for our daughter didn’t exist.

From our workshop in Cardiff, Wales, we handcraft solid wood children’s bookshelves designed to live beautifully within your home — and grow with your family for years to come.

Most children’s furniture forces a compromise.

Too colourful. Too flimsy. Too temporary.

We wanted something different. Furniture that felt calm, timeless, and genuinely well made — something that looked at home alongside the rest of our furniture, not separate from it.

So we started making it ourselves.

WHY WE STARTED

A few years ago, while on maternity leave with our daughter Autumn, we were creating the kind of home many parents dream about — calm, functional, and filled with books.

We loved the idea of front-facing bookshelves that allowed children to see and choose books independently. But everything we found felt like one extreme or the other.

Either flat-pack and forgettable.
Or beautifully styled but completely out of reach.

There was nothing in between — nothing handmade, beautifully built, and designed to belong in a real home.

So we made our own.

First for Autumn’s room. Then for friends. Then for families across the UK looking for the same thing we were.

Today, every shelf still begins the same way — in our Cardiff workshop, by hand.

Every piece we make is built from solid wood using traditional joinery and furniture-making techniques designed to last beyond childhood.

No MDF.

No flat-pack fittings.

No shortcuts hidden beneath paint.

The Story Shelf was designed to feel softer and more balanced than typical children’s furniture — with front-facing storage, rounded corners, and proportions designed to sit comfortably alongside the rest of your home.

Because children’s furniture shouldn’t feel temporary.

The spaces our children grow up in shape how they feel, play, and see the world around them. We believe those spaces deserve furniture that’s made with care.
